The final details and contributions are being squared away for the first ever Scranton Fundraising Night.
Volunteers are collaborating to host an evening of fun, food and fundraising for four Scranton entities. The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, in the Scranton Community Center gymnasium.
Money raised will benefit the Scranton Community Center, Fire Department, H.F. and Maude E. Marchant Memorial Library and Scranton Park and Recreation Committee.
Tickets are on sale at Scranton city hall, Peoples Bank in Scranton and H.F. and Maude E. Marchant Memorial Library. Adult tickets are $15 with children ages 6-12 $5. Ages five years and under are free.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. with the Scranton fire department serving cold beverages throughout the evening.
The meal is slated for service at 6 pm. The Greene County Cattlemen’s Association, Pork and Lamb Producers will provide the main entree. Sides including red potatoes, macaroni salad, taco salad, broccoli salad, roll, and green bean casserole will be prepared by Lidderdale Country Store. Homemade desserts will be available via a bake sale which is sponsored by the Marchant Public Library.
A silent auction with numerous nice items is planned throughout the night. Initial listings include: Country Custom Designs, Deals Orchard, HyVee, Shine on Designs, Sierra Theatre and Christensen Ag Services with more being added.
A live auction is planned, beginning at 7 pm. Some of the items to cross the auction block include: Marianne Carlson (one dozen cinnamon rolls); Greene County Rams Wrestling team (five-six guys for four hours labor); Scranton Machine Shop (metal art); Strategy Ag / Tanner Lawton (20 units of seed treatment and three bags of RobSeeCo. Seed Corn); Greene County Conservation two-night rental at cabins; Carol Eason (two Andrew Wyeth painting prints – large framed); four Iowa State University Tickets; Mycogen Seeds (six bags seed corn) by Josh Hedges; Stine (40 units beans) by Nick Laubscher; Emily Finch (apple pie), Brian Hunter (four half hog with processing at Dahl’s Locker in Bagley); Christensen Ag Services / Christensen Brother’s Land (semi load of white rock); Rudy’s Service and Detail (detail, oil change, tire rotation) and 16 large round net wrapped cornstalk bales donated by Mark Naberhaus.
The evening will conclude with entertainment by Studio 728 from 8 – 11 p.m. This quintet, headed by John Richardson (formerly of Scranton) performs a variety of classic country, 60s rock, fiddle tunes and old-time music. Three vocalists perform backed by a fiddle, guitar, bass, organ and drums.
